Single?

Female and single. It’s no secret that this world is controlled by men, a perfect example of which is that a man who is single is a playboy; a stud. A woman that is single? We’re written off as cat women, who will clearly never be happy if they don’t have a powerful man by their side. It’s my belief that however against this view we are, we still find ourselves being judgemental from time to time. ‘...She's thirty and single? Doesn’t she want to be married?’ And what if she doesn’t? Does that make her odd? It’s meant to be an empowering fact of life that we can do what we want with our life. We can pretty much get out of most situations: most things are reversible. So why is it that society frowns upon your life choices? Women are always followed around by the biological clock and that’s something that scares most women even if they don’t want that life, it’s nice to have the option right? But even if you don’t agree with society there’s still that voice in our heads that tells us we must get married. We must have children. We must have a good job. And how can we not avoid this? We’re surrounded by the constant media…. Bridget Jones’ diary is a perfect example ( a film by the way which I love) it begins with her wanting to turn her life around because she can no longer be a single woman. And that’s the thing. Why is it so bad to be a single woman? Now a days, a single can get everything a married woman has minus the stability, but do married women really have stability? With divorce rates on the rise why is it so good to be married with children? Aren’t you just going to end up hurting a hell of a lot more people?

I must add to this, I am all for marriage. If you’re in love and want to get married, then why not? You should be celebrating life. My point being, why if you’re not married and you’re not in love can you not be perfectly happy? What has society got against single happiness?
