Fashion is my world

Okay, I've already done one post today, but I'm in a seriously fashion-y mood! So, I thought I'd post some of my style inspirations and icons:

Fairport's Cropredy Convention

So, as I mentioned.... (was it Monday?) Monday, a few friends and I are planning to go to Cropredy Convention next Summer to hear all of the 'folky goodness'. Fairport's lineup has changed numerous times, but their music has remained an amazing beacon for many years! My favourite album is Who knows where the time goes?- What a great question!- mainly because it goes from extremely bouncy to really sad within one album and that's what I find so powerful, not just about Fairport, but about folk music. I always say that I like art that can make me cry or make me smile like a lunatic! Folk music can do both of those things. I'm gonna leave with some cheery festival photos that I googled:

Floppy hat!

I considered using this want for one of my '5 Things I want for Thursday,' but then thought that it deserved a whole post! I've wanted a floppy hat for quite a while now. Not a straw one (although I do love a good straw hat) but a felt one so that I can wear it in Winter, and hey it's great for festival season too! Even in my profile picture I'm wearing one (which I didn't buy... oops) so now the hunt begins. Apparently they was so last season, but I'm determined to have my hands on one by the end of the year! Also, it'd really be great to have a floppy hat for when I -hopefully- go to Cropredy next year. My friends and I had been planning on going on either holiday or to a festival next year, but weren't sure where. Well, now we've decided that we have to go to Fairport's Cropredy Convention and I am so excited! I wasn't going to mention it as tickets haven't been bought yet (they haven't actually gone on sale yet) but the excitement has got the better of me! I'll probably blog about it tomorrow, seen as I've completely gone off topic! So, back to the point : hats. I thought that a hat would be the perfect accessory to sit and watch some folk music too! Here are a few I'm liking the look of:

Picking yourself up

I’m very aware of the fact that this blog has completely been abandoned! I haven’t written since last Saturday. So, I feel like I owe you an explanation, although I’ve never liked the idea of being overly personal on the internet! Maybe it’s just my personality which is being un-accepting of the speed technology is moving? Either way, a problem shared is a problem halved. Basically, I’ve been ill all week! Great isn’t it? Well, obviously I didn’t feel it seen as 5 Things I want for Thursday went out of the window and I was really enthusiastic about that one! Also, my sister moved out today to go to University and I’m going to miss her so much. I couldn’t even go with her today to move her our because I didn’t feel well. I am recovering though, it’s just going slowly. I’ve probably mentioned before that I am a complete worrier. And when worrying makes you feel sick, it doesn’t exactly go well with illness! So, I’m trying to distract myself and not be upset by the fact that Molly doesn’t live with me anymore. It’s not just my blog that has been getting behind either, but also my school work which isn’t great when you have a lot to do. But I have completed an English essay today and so I’m slowly getting back on top of my work. And it turns out that work is a great distraction anyway! I promise that 5 Things I want for Thursday will get back on track… and who knows, maybe some more ramblings/baking or outfit shots. After all, it gives me some distraction right? Anyway, here’s hoping that I feel myself again soon!

And don’t forget, Keep Dreaming xoxo

5 things I want for Thursday

Okay, I know I already posted today. That's because I may have forgotten that it was Thursday! But, I am going to be organised with this 5 things I want!
Sugarhill boutique dress, The vow on dvd, a ticket to New York fashion week, Henry Holland crochet scarf; I want to use a calculator in maths!

Cake... the cure all?

For years and years people have been looking for that medicine that will cure up. Pick you up when you're down, rid you of any negative feelings and make you see life in an all new light. Well, I think I've found the ultimate cure all: cake. And no, not any cake, but the infamous chocolate cake. As women, we get home after a long day, do all of our chores (still not feeling any better) and it's the next step that can make us feel like a million pounds! We pull out of the cupboard the chocolate cake, and take a slice... of course you need a fork so that you don't look like an absolute pig, but yes, chocolate cake.
It's dreamy, it's chocolate and it's cake. How could you possibly go wrong? And I promise, that I do feel so much better after my slice of yummy cake! xoxo
p.s. thought I'd add some cheesy photos of me eating cake! My reason is.... why not?

9/11

I'm going to keep this message short... it shall be more of a thinking space. Today was a day to remember the terrible events of 9/11 and to remember those who died in this event. Not forgetting, their families. You are in all of our minds today. Where ever you were in the world, we will be thinking of you. Our hearts truly go out to you.

What are we looking for?

I have sat, countless times, with my friends just chatting whilst keeping an eye out for fit guys. Maybe we’d be in Costa playing 100 or maybe we’d be sat in Post 16. One way or another, the outside of a guy is a lot easier to appreciate than what is inside. To figure out your perfect guy, you have to go through looks, then personality. The fact is that that person doesn’t even exist. We all have the perfect guy image; then the perfect personality combined with that image is so slight you’ll probably never meet him. If you do? It wasn’t as good as you imagined. Mysterious has never been a good thing on guys for me… just tell me what you’re thinking! But yet so many girls look for the mysterious guy, otherwise known as Mr. Tall Dark and Handsome. So do any of us know what we’re actually looking for? We have the perfect image and personality, but let’s be honest, even he has the worst downfalls you could imagine. Which poses the question: does love at first sight really exist? None of us know what we’re looking for until it hits us in the middle of the face, and we don’t realise that love until we get to know the person. So is the modern ‘love at first sight’, actually ‘love at first getting to know?’ Because in my eyes, that’s pretty much the same thing, just a lot easier to find. And hey, we all need a little sprinkle of optimism from time to time. Xoxo

Lets make a plan.

Now that I'm at Post 16, I no longer have to wear a uniform, which I love. But it then poses the question of what do I wear? I'm one of those annoying people that plans everything before hand, especially my outfits. There's nothing worse than waking up in the morning and having to pick an outfit as I normally end up trying about five outfits on and getting completely stressed - not the best of starts for the day. However, it would seem that this week I've taken my planning obsession a step further. This morning I was considering what I might wear tomorrow, when I decided to draw all of my outfits for the week! I know that it sounds really sad, but I've actually found it really helpful as I won't have any early morning madness! Bring on the week! xoxo

5 things I want for Thursday!

I’m really crushing on all things cutsie and vintage at the moment, and every time I want to treat myself, I see the object and forget to write it down! ‘5 things I want for Thursday’ is a place where I can share with you my crushes and also keep a note of them myself (who said I was forgetful?)

P.s I know it isn't Thursday, but this Thursday has already gone and next Thursday is so far away! xoxo

Literature

I started at Post 16 on Thursday, and so far have done Biology, English Lit and History. The one that's coming on Monday (the one I fear) is maths. I just hope that I can remember at least some of it! But back to the point: English! I was always a little doubtful about picking English Literature as I love everything to do with English (if I didn't I wouldn't have this blog) but there's a lot to read! Don't get me wrong, I love reading, but I'm such a slow reader! I like to take everything in very slowly and read it as if I was reading it aloud- obviously slowing down the process in general. I have until October half time to read The Kite Runner and The Great Gatsby which seems like a long time, but in my eyes it really isn't. All I can do is start reading now and gradually plod through it all! I guess I just have to keep my fingers crossed! xoxo

Poppy makes: smoothies

If you're looking for a great smoothie recipe, maybe this isn't the place because I had a smoothie disaster, and originally wasn't going to blog about my slight disaster. When I had my friends around on Monday we had a bit of a twister tournament, made pizza and smoothies! Which weren't exactly delicious! In fact, the first was a little sickly and then the second had lots and lots of bits in them as they were exotic! Great.

But I must say, I ruled the twister! For once, seen as I'm normally terrible! But, hey! A fab day with some slightly iffy smoothies and what not! xoxo
My sister and I playing twister (yep, I look scary!)

Do we ever stop.

As girls, we’re always looking for that certain something to ‘up the ante’ or to make our character more interesting to those around us. We back comb our hair, we paint our nails, and we bat our eye lashes. But, we’re never willing to say what we are really feeling. That we’re feeling flat, boring or a little un-noticed. Because, if we say these things, doesn’t it make us desperate? Everyone is looking for that certain thing, even guys- although I’m pretty sure their certain thing is slightly different. When does it all stop? When do we stop looking for that certain something and just deal with the truth; with who we are. Why are we never satisfied? Even after we’ve had one of the best relationships of our lives, we still sit and complain to our friends, but at the time it seemed so great. Is it because we change and therefore change our wants too? Or is it because whatever you want now, once you get it, it doesn’t quite live up to our standards.

Which poses the question, will we ever be satisfied? And if we will, how do we know when it hits us?

It takes forever for one bus, then two come along at once!

I said last week that I hadn't been bowling in ages hence the reason that we went to celebrate results! Then, my sister got a Sunday off of work and it was her last Sunday until she goes to Uni so she decided we should go family bowling.
Cue sexy bowling pose:

I'm obviously not a good bowler- seen as I'm more bothered about my image and nails- but surprisingly everyone was tired by the second game and so I won!!! Yaay! Go me! Keep Dreaming xoxo

Poppy bakes: Cake Pops

My friends came round today, so yesterday I decided that I'd do some baking for them, but I didn't want to do the usual buns or a cake! But, I didn't want it to go disasterly ( yeah ok not a word!)wrong! With those combined, you get Cake Pops! I mixed two recipes together, as they were quite similar anyway:
1. I followed the Bero cake recipe to bake my plain cake for the inside!

2. I took it out of the oven and left it to cool ( it doesn't matter if it falls to pieces like mine as you're only going to crumble it up in a moment)
3. Crumble up your cake and add to it white melted chocolate (so that it's all the same colour)
4. Mix the two together and mould them into balls, before putting them into the fridge to set for about an hour (or until they're firm)

5. Stick your sticks into the balls once firm (I used incense sticks that hadn't been used... it's all I could find!!!)

6. Put some sprinkles into a bowl and melt some milk chocolate in a bowl and get the two ready. Dip the cake balls into the melted chocolate and then into the sprinkles (yes, this is the stage that mine went a little wrong and some fell to pieces!!!)
7. Pop them into the fridge to set one last time! It shouldn't take much longer than half and hour!

Then enjoy them!!! xoxo

Pulling out the knit wear!

After getting not much sleep, due to be absolutely freezing I decided that yesterday I should really wrap up warm! Literally, I got out of bed in the middle of the night to put my bench jacket on that I haven’t worn in years and to tuck my bottoms into my socks! When I woke up, it looked like I had turned ‘chav’ over night! I have since put my extra thick duvet on! I do not enjoy looking chav.

When I turned up to meet Amie, all I could say was,’ I’m too warm,’ okay so perhaps I over estimated how cold it was and now I was boiling! Not to mention having a serious stomach ache (and I don’t normally complain about being in pain!)

I’m still majorly excited about winter, and I did love wearing this outfit, even if I was way too warm! And that’s not the only thing that I was overly excited about! I bought an iTunes voucher, so I could finally organise my iTunes. And now I have all of my artwork on as well! It put my mind at rest now that it was organised! It also meant that I could finally buy all the albums that I’ve been wanting for ages!

You may have noticed that I’ve recently added a bar at the top of my blog! Who’d have guessed that I did that? Yes, I who repels technology!

Last note for today: I have to say thank you to Amie for taking these photos on her phone… I know right, they’re really good as well, on a phone! What is happening to the world?

When we were little, we dreamt.

When we were little, we were eager to tell people that we wanted to be dentists, teachers and singers! All of a sudden, that question actually means something and we seemed embarrassed that someone might judge our choice, even if the choice we have at the minute might not be the one we stick with. In a year’s time, it will be the time to send out University applications, so it might just help if I knew what I wanted to do. I’ve been interested in journalism for about a year now. I’ve always had a strong interest in writing, and in year four my teacher described my writing to be bubbling out of the page (a little bit strange maybe?) I even enjoyed writing in year 9 about the 9/11 and effects on people’s lives. Now? I enjoy flicking through cosmopolitan and vogue, whilst trying to keep on my literature- after all I am taking it at A level- and writing this blog! In fact, I’ve just finished reading Pride and Prejudice: I did want to give up several times, but kept going and the end was just beautiful. So, if I have such a strong interest in writing and reading, why can’t I announce that I want to be a writer? All of a sudden, people begin to scrutinize my grammar and put me into a category. All of a sudden, it isn’t just an interest, it’s my life. And honestly, that scares me. It scares me more than anything. Because what if this is just an interest? I’d be going down the wrong path. But if it is more than an interest? Then it would be the greatest life that I could imagine, especially if I was to be successful!
