Zombie Day!

Obviously, Halloween is tomorrow although for some reason Halloween-y things never seem to be on the actual day! Trick or treating gets done on the night, but that’s about it and I’ve never been a fan of trick or treating if I’m being completely honest. Is it only me that thinks it’s a little bit odd going from door to door of people that you don’t even know and asking for sweets? Maybe I’m just being pessimistic, but that isn’t one of the good sides of Halloween if you ask me! I much prefer the dressing up side of things!

Today was ‘Zombie Day’ at post 16 and there may have been a moment on the way to school where me and Eli panicked a little as we thought we’d be the only ones who actually dressed up, but it turned out that practically everybody dressed up so all was good! I had to make my face up out of lipstick and eye shadow, but hey it kind of worked!

And it doesn’t stop there. I’m going to a Halloween party of Emma’s on Saturday which is set to be fun. I’ll probably end up posting all the details nearer the time anyway, but I’m planning on going as a cat! Originally it was a lacy cat, but I left all of my dressing up items till last minute so now it’s more of a plain black cat! But, Halloween-y all the same! Emma has lots of treats in store for us in the form of childish games simply because we are big children at heart!

Happy Halloweening for tomorrow! I think I’m just making up Halloween based words now!!!

I would walk a thousand miles... would I?

Stress relief: something we all need from time to time. So I set about finding stress relief methods, obviously I posted five the other week, but recently I’ve started walking again. My parents love walking; in fact they met when they were in ventures and so it’s always been something they enjoy to do. My grandparents even love it, I guess it’s something that runs in the family. Molly and I used to go with them all the time, but when you get older you feel the urge to find a sense of independence and to find your own hobbies. My solution? Dump the walking! Yep, the only form of exercise in my life and I decided that that was holding me back!

Perhaps I was mistaken, so I’ve started walking again recently. Exercise has never been something I enjoyed… I can’t run to save my life; I don’t see the fun in swimming and don’t even get me started on exercise DVDs! So, I guess I get on with walking a little better than I thought. And it actually has really helped me relax. Sometimes in life you’re going to find it hard to get out of your head and just take five minutes to yourself, but it’s important that you do. So you have to figure out how you can escape from the world. I guess that walking Is like my form of escapism (even though it kills me to admit it). My name is Poppy, and I enjoy walking!

Leicester

Last week, during the half term, we ventured off to visit Molly. She’s actually going to be home quite a bit over the next few weeks due to bonfire night and what not! After all, we have to have our traditional bonfire meal (without fail, every year). She was in Uni in the morning, so we had chance to do a spot of shopping. You should know by now that if I’m near shops, it’s evident I’m going to be in one ASAP! So I bought a new pair of jeans, a top, a jumper and a knitted dress (that’s a yucky pink colour, but for some reason it kind of works).

Molly seems to have settled in well and her room looks all homely now. We went for a walk in Leicester after visiting Molly’s flat to a park on the outskirts of the city. There’s a bonfire night there as well soon which sounds like fun, not that I am actually going to be there. We found a leaf for Molly’s noticeboard, which is quite frankly as big as my head!

For tea we went to the pub for a quick meal and then off we went. We were all half asleep when we got back, but it’s worth it isn’t it to see part of your family?

P.S I've recently found a love of coloured tights, so keep an eye out for those popping up from time to time!

‘Never has there been a woman as in control of her destiny as the women of today’ Oscar de la Renta.

But haven’t women always been on top? If men have a problem, they sulk to their other halves or drown their sorrows in a gin. If women have a problem, we stand together, we put our thoughts out there and we don’t stop until we get what we want. The suffragettes were a huge turning point in any females life today, and yes we probably wouldn’t be where we are today without constant strikes and struggles from the suffragette women. But just because we live in a man’s world and always will, does this mean that we are weaker than men? Nowadays we are the businesswomen, the models, the mothers. Women are the inspiration of the 21st century. We have the ability to change a life. Male or female, we have the power to inspire a nation and to knock someone’s dreams. Do men hold this power? I’m a hundred per cent positive that men can (and do) inspire, conquer and strive but why do they get perceived as the stronger sex? Especially when it’s the females that they rely on. Its females that have the ability to share their worries easier and its females that keep organisation tip top. Without women we’d be a nation of lost hopes and dreams. Without women the world would be a very different place. All you have to do to see a powerful woman nowadays is open a magazine, turn on the television or open your front door. This may be a man’s world, but where would the world be without a women at the side?

Strutting your stuff

There’s nothing better in the morning, than waking up to fog, fog, and fog. It’s normally followed by the Christmas feeling which reminds me of dresses, shoes and parties. Maybe I’m a bit early to be thinking about this, but I honestly believe that the party season is upon us! First comes Halloween (which I have a pretty wicked outfit for) then its bonfire night and before you know it? Yep, Christmas and New year’s! It is the season to be jolly for a reason my friends. This is the time when fashion hits off. Autumn and winter are my favourite seasons not only because I get to layer up, but I get to wear that beautiful dress that does all the talking! And no one can some up that party look better than Oscar de la Renta himself. I love his dresses as they’re always flawless, always have a perfect shape and to be quite frank I’d quite happily wear them every day of the week (if I could afford them that is). But who says I can’t get excited about something just because I can’t afford it? I buy vogue most months, and I can’t afford anything in there, but it gives me inspiration and it gives me my dreams for that month. Fashion makes me want to stand up, go outside and make a difference. And in winter, everyone has this opportunity! Party season is just ten times better!

Happy partying  xoxo

Music Round up! What number are we on now?!?!

Yep, it's been that long since I did a music round up that I've forgotten what number we're on... I'm sure it was never a massive number, because my mind wanders from idea to idea and I never really get stuck into a project until I need to! Actually, that isn't true because this blog has stuck and this was the best project I have ever decided upon!
So... my five favourite songs of the moment:

1.Fairport Convention- John Gaudie

2. Rizzle Kicks- Miss Cigarette

3. Scouting For Girls- Famous

4. Cher- Believe (yep ridiculously old, ridiculously cheesy... do I care?)

5. Lawson- Taking over me

So there is my current music round up! Here's hoping for more in the future, thought I'd leave you with a killer tune from Karmin.... (video from youtube) :

Roll on the half term

So, my first half term of A levels has started and finished, and I must say it was everything I imagined: sometimes hard, sometimes fun and always a lot of work. The key thing to remember is to keep organised (and I bet you thought I was going to say to keep dreaming?) Well the fact is dreams can’t be accomplished without organisation and you can’t be organised until you have learnt to look after yourself in every way. I’m working on the looking after myself part. After all, you can’t start to put your efforts into other things if you haven’t put the efforts into yourself to start with. That’s the key issue that I have learnt this half term… yes that I am going to have to work harder than ever, but you have to give yourself a break now and then to do things that you enjoy doing. If you don’t then you’re going to end up in a place that you won’t appreciate. I guess I’m saying that it’s great to keep dreaming, but you have to have a happy you to dream a little in the first place!

Keep being organised, keep smiling and then maybe you can keep dreaming xoxo

Five ways to keep on going and never look back:

It’s not exactly a secret that I haven’t been feeling amazing as of recently, but to dwell on it is never the solution. So, for anyone else out there that is in my position I thought I’d make five ways to keep on going and never look back!

1.       Cheesy quotes. I’ve always been a fan quotes, but in this state they just didn’t work, until I remembered this:

Life will throw you lemons; in this scenario you have two options: make lemonade or wear a sour face.

When I remembered this quote, I realised that I had been a culprit of the latter! So from now on I shall make lemonade (metaphorically of course)!

2.       Cups of tea. Tea is my favourite drink in the world and quite frankly it’s a life saver! I stopped drinking it last week and literally felt awful! So the tea has been constant this week, how can you not like being all warm and fuzzy?

3.       Breathe. Maybe it’s a little obvious, but when I’ve been feeling anxious, I find it helps to slow down my breathing and close my eyes. Yep, I look ridiculous but it honestly helps!

4.       Fresh air. There’s no point in making lemonade if you’re not going to share it with your friends! And to be with your friends you have to get out of the house, not only does the air help, but it’s a change of scene and who can distract you better than your best friends? They’ve been a god send this week and I don’t know where I’d be without them!
two of my awesome friends.

5.       Remember that you’re not alone! It’s true, all I had to do was talk to a few of my friends to find out that most of them have been through something similar. Maybe there’s was worse or not as bad, but they all had tips for me, and now I shall have these tips for you!

I hope these tips have helped at least one person! And if they don’t work, make your own up! That’s the great thing about life, you can live to your own rules! xoxo

Shellys

I found recently, that to write a good blog that people might actually want to read, you need to look around! Search other blogs, get a taste for what people like to read and what they don't. And more importantly, know what I'd want to write. After all, it isn't worth writing something if you don't really enjoy the process. Upon viewing different blogs, I stumbled across a new shoe site! And boy, have I fallen in love with it! It's called Shelly's and I absolutely adore almost all of their shoes and wish that some of them weren't out of my size because I would have so bought them!

You can check out the site here: http://www.shellys.com/

The usual shoe photo, wellies just rule so much!

A lovely view of the river!

Home for the weekend!

My sister came back home this weekend, in fact yesterday, to catch up with us. We're very miss able people after all! So we thought we'd take a walk around clumber (tactical to clear our heads yet have a good time) and it was just so nice to catch up with her!

I absolutely love Autumn, but I am sure I've mentioned that before! And this skirt is the most Autumnal piece of clothing I own, so obviously I had to whip it out! It's from Miss. Selfridge, but last year!

I'm looking for a new pair of boots at the minute, as much as I love these shoes, they need a rest from time to time!

It's lovely to have Molly back, in fact it's as if she never went at all! But she's off again on Sunday. It's so weird how quick the time goes, I guess you should never take anything for granted!

Keep Dreaming xoxo

A thing I want for Thursday!

Yep, I'm afraid it is just the one thing this Thursday. Partly because I'm still feeling quite ill (although I'm sure I'll be better soon) and partly because I just haven't got round to looking as of yet. Yes, I know... bad blogger! But hey, can you really blame me?

So, last week I went shopping and bought a black lacey dress (which I'm going to wear to a Halloween party (I'm going as a cat)) but I also was trying on a lot of ankle boots! I absolutely adore my ankle boots, but at the same point I'm quite wanting some cute little light brown ankle boots. I originally wanted some knee high boots, but they just make me look so small! Smallness, definitely has it's up and down points! So, little boots it is! I wouldn't even mind a little tiny heel (shock horror).

No images this week, but when I feel better I'll be back on the outfit posts, especially seen as I have no excuses now! xoxo
